If you rely on taking your medication on time every day, whether lifesaving or otherwise, you may be a little hesitant to put it in the hands of an autonomous being.

However, Pillo claims to have your best interests at heart and its creators describe it as “the smartest and friendliest way to manage yours and your family’s health.”

The robot knows you’re the one requesting your daily medication because it uses facial recognition to ensure it’s dispensing medicine to the right person. It’ll picture your face and make sure the features match up before releasing the tablets or vitamins.

You can set up multiple users, each with their own schedule and using this user recognition, it will dispense the medicines when you need them.

If it feels you need medical attention, Pillo will put you in contact with your doctor or another medical professional immediately, which could save vital time if it’s a life or death situation, or just offer a load of convenience if you don’t fancy sitting on hold trying to organise an appointment or joining the queue at the walk-in centre.

It stores up to a week’s worth of medicines in tamper-proof containers inside the bot and if you start to run low, it can order more from your local pharmacy – it’s as simple as that!

Pillo can also connect to other devices in your home or on your body, such as your smartphone or your smartwatch to make sure you’re always reminded when your medication is due.

The robot is currently funding on Indiegogo, costing $229 (£226). The makers are hoping to raise $75,000 (£57,000) to put it into production.
