Edgybees has unveiled an AR game for DJI drones, helping pilots learn advanced skills for navigating drones through the skies while having a little fun on the side.
DronePrix AR isn’t a complicated game – it’s a simple obstacle avoidance game where you’re expected to navigate your drone around a number of imaginary objects in the skies, collecting prizes for the more specialised manoeuvres.
There’s a range of different game modes including solo slalom and flight assistant, which has been specifically designed for improving the skills of drone operatives via a 3D space environment where they collect coins and prizes.
In total, there are more than 30 different courses, so it’s unlikely even the most obsessive player will get bored quickly. Even if you don’t take the tutorials seriously, it’s still a fun way to perfect your flying skills.
“When we first came up with the idea for this app, we wanted to create a new experience for pilots combining the joys of flying with the thrills of gamification. The Drone Prix AR app is really the first augmented reality social game designed specifically to do just that,” Menashe Haskin, Edgybees CTO and co-founder of Edgybees said.
“In contrast with flight simulators, Drone Prix AR provides a much more immersive experience that combines virtual obstacles with real-life piloting skills. DJI’s Mobile SDK allowed us to bring our idea to life very quickly and we are really excited to see how this app will change the way people experience flying a drone.”
The standard DJI controller is used to move the drone through the obstacle course and it can be used with the Phantom 3, Phantom 4 and Mavic Pro drones. The game is available for both iPhones and Android devices, downloaded from the devices’ app stores.
